Some M1 Mac consumers reporting screensaver takeover bug

I picked up a new MacBook Air with Apple’s M1 chip, and I’ve certainly cherished it so considerably. It’s genuinely speedy and the battery is great. But I’ve been dealing with a person nagging concern. Every single once in a whilst, for reasons that I have not been equipped to determine out, a screensaver will out of the blue consider above the total pc — even with the reality that I hardly ever use a screensaver. And frustratingly, the screensaver renders my laptop inoperable till I absolutely shut the display and reopen it.

It appears to be I’m not the only one looking at this bug, according to this MacRumors post. Other folks have shared similar challenges with M1-outfitted MacBook Airs, Professionals, and Minis on MacRumorsboards, Reddit (in a number of threads), and Apple’s support message boards. And one particular consumer on MacRumors claimed they’ve seen the bug on their 16-inch MacBook Professional, which has an Intel chip, so most likely this is a difficulty with macOS Significant Sur.

Here’s a video clip of the bug, shared by MacRumors discussion board member dawideksl:

A lot of persons reporting the challenge in this Reddit thread say they have multiple accounts on the exact pc. And for what it’s well worth, I’ve set up two accounts on my MacBook Air. A person person on Apple’s support forums disabled Quick User Switching and stated they weren’t seeing the screensaver, so maybe which is a workaround until eventually Apple addresses the bug.

Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
