Metro Parks’ food program teaches kids healthy habits

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — In an orderly fashion, young children at the Kirkpatrick Community Center are mastering the basic principles of food prepping.

Lessons protect everything from cleanliness to risk-free knife handling procedures.

“We want to equip little ones with different variants of healthful vegetables and fruits and that’s what we want to introduce to this plan,” Tiffanie Fletcher, software coordinator for the centre, stated.

About 200 students in under-served communities will be able to appreciate the cost-free courses. Fletcher reported the funding will come from the federally sponsored Youngster and Adult Treatment Foods Software.

“It can be a funded application and they reimburse us for all meals that we do for our little ones, but a single of the components in the application method is that we have to have to be training and supporting small children make those more healthy selections,” she explained.

For two several years neighborhood centers throughout the city have made available absolutely free foods to kids in right after-school plans. Now at 9 group centers, food prep classes will be available far too.

“The lessons are about healthful consuming of study course and also enabling kids small approaches matters that they can do at home, when their mother and father are away, or if they are looking at more youthful kids, or even if they have to food prep,” Fletcher reported.

The concentration of the classes is teaching young children to put together easy healthy foods.

Fletcher explained Metro Parks’ foods software has programs to improve and develop to more local community centers up coming year.
